Shoot or Shout 2024?!?!


That's right, my millions.....no.....BILLIONS of fans!

Shoot or Shout is back! And it's stronger, faster....welp....better than EVER BEFORE. I considered the project done as a small casual thing but I decided that I can give it a pretty solid structure and maybe even release it by 2024! I'm working a lot on the core and I plan to release that core as a demo by January or February....no promises tho!

What you can expect so far:

  • Reworked view: The game is gonna be played in a 3/4 view and the sprites are also gonna be either sideview or 3/4 view. That means I need a LOOOOT of sprites to remake and create. THIS is what I need the rest of these months for (yes the code is essentially 90% done).
  • New enemies: We had 2 types of running zombies...and probably the "spitter" in the original version, right? Now we have more!!!! Don't want to spoil anything but I'll say that instead of 2 types of enemies, we gonna have 5 TYPES per level (gonna tell you about that later)
  • BOSSES. Yes, Shoot or Shout will have bossfights at the end of each "level" or as I call them "dimension". Long and interesting fights!
  • I think that's it for the demo version. Couple more enemies, reworked sprites and a final boss for the dimension.
  • Difficulty options are removed for now because it just makes the whole scope bigger for no reason. I'm not sure yet if I want to add them back.

Now let's talk about the full release. See, I'm not entirely sure about everything yet but here are some rough goals I have in mind:

  • GAME GENRE: ROGUELITE - This is the best way to describe where the direction goes. The overall plan is to progress -> player dies -> gets stronger/better -> progresses further. This means that I plan to add upgrades to the game as well after each run, however none of this is at development stage just yet.
  • SCORE BASED PROGRESSION - The game works with a score progression system which basically means that new content is available during your run if you reach higher and higher scores. Maybe the runner zombies attack right from the start...but certain types only spawn if you've collected enough points. If any of you played the underrated indie game "10 000 000", that game has a similar progression.
  • MULTIPLE DIMENSIONS - As said above, we only have the "Dungeon Dimension" right now but I plan to add a LOT. Like...a TON. Like...ok you get the idea. If everything goes as planned I wish to update this game as much as possible with as much content as possible. The enemeies (and bosses) are unique to each dimension. Once a certain highscore is reached and the boss is defeated, the players are teleported to the next dimension.
  • WHAT'S THE ENDGAME? - My current plan is to add a vague story and a "'big bad" we need to defeat. However this might hurt replayability and the addition of new content (imagine beating the final boss but still have the need to go to other worlds...might not make too much sense) so the actual endgame is still a bit foggy.
  • UPGRADES - Although none if this is in development yet, I wish to have a "shop" or something where you get teleported after a gameover so you can spend resources to buy upgrades for either the Shooter or the Shouter. Higher damage, multi shot, freezing shouts or something.

Maybe that's it? I don't know, hopefully I'm not missing anything. I wish I would have a demo trailer or something but the demo content ain't too big (ngl) and I wanna keep most stuff as a surprise for now! So...let's just remember how IT WAS back in 2021 with this release celebration video from...you know....2021.
